Systems Administrator

We're expanding our execution services IT team with a position that combines hands-on production support and operational tasks. As a Systems Administrator, you will be given the opportunity to work in a production trading environment. The successful candidate will be a great communicator, able to multi-task, a self-starter who can investigate issues and problem solve, all while maintaining our exceptional standards for system uptime and reliability. You will collaborate well within this small team, helping people when needed, sharing insights, making effective use of other people's time. This is an entry to junior-mid level position suitable for recent graduates or those with up to 3 years relevant experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily production support for Linux (CentOS 7.9/RHEL 9.3) systems and Windows workstations with root/administrator level access
- Admin and manage Atlassian products (Wiki, Jira, Bitbucket)
- Edit Salt configuration
- "Housekeeping" for Linux centric devices and applications; Kickstart process, Nagios monitoring, yum repos, package and firmware updates
- Triage and diagnose incidents on the network layer/interface level and be able to communicate initial report to users/clients
- Coordinate physical data center work and tasks, as well as write out, schedule, and live support any necessary work. This role occasionally requires in-person visits to our NJ data centers for scheduled maintenance and emergency response.
- Availability for routine network change calls that require a Sysadmin during the market downtime and weekend checkouts to ensure the environment is stable come Monday morning open
- This role requires availability for urgent after-hours support including system outages, network failures, and other critical incidents that could impact trading operations. This role operates in a high-pressure trading environment where system failures can have immediate financial impact. We need someone who remains calm under pressure and is committed to seeing critical issues through to resolution, even during stressful late-night or weekend emergencies.
Required Qualifications:
- Bash scripting experience
- Linux system administration experience (user management, services, monitoring)
- Experience in interacting directly with clients/users, ideally in finance/trading
- Aptitude for multi-tasking, handling interruptions and priority shifts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with any of the following technologies:
- RHEL 9 flavors
- Python scripting
- Familiarity with HPE ILO (or IDRAC/BMC)
- Hyper-V or similar virtual machine technology
- Atlassian product experience (Jira, Wiki, Bitbucket)
- GIT and GIT branch workflows
- SolarFlare or equivalent NIC card
- Salt or Ansible
- Understanding of switching, networking, VLANs
- Experience of participating in a support rotation
- Understanding of Server <-> Switch network layer and troubleshooting methods
- Docker and database administration
- OS level and hardware level performance optimization techniques
