About Us

We aim to help our clients unlock the firm they’ve always wanted with our Practice Management Suite. The Opportunity

At Canopy our payments business is growing extremely fast and we’re looking for a strategic, hands-on leader to take it to the next level. This critical position will report directly to the CEO. You’ll drive the vision, strategy, and execution of our payments roadmap—owning growth, adoption, and profitability across the board. This role demands strong cross-functional leadership and a deep understanding of payments generally, and specifically within the context of a vertical SaaS platform.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the primary driver of our payments business, coordinating across every function to maximize growth, adoption, usage, and profitability.
  • Devise and successfully execute against an ambitious 3-year strategic plan for our payments business.
  • Identify and execute on all available levers to grow our payments business as quickly and profitably as possible.
  • Work cross-functionally with all teams at Canopy to execute against the strategic plan, ensuring alignment across Sales, Customer Success, Support, Product, and Finance.
  • Work closely with our integrated payments partner and over time add others.
  • Own and manage end-to-end payments risk.

What We’re Looking For

  • Direct, successful, hands-on experience building and scaling a payments business within a vertical SaaS platform.
  • In-depth experience and knowledge with the following topics:
    • Payments pricing, packaging, and incentives to drive payments adoption and usage (and the intersection of these with SaaS platform pricing and packing);
    • GTM playbooks for driving payments adoption and usage;
    • Technical payments experience, including managing migrations from legacy processors.
    • Increasing ownership over time of economics (and risk) of payments processing;
    • Payments risk management, including ACH returns, chargebacks, fraud exposure, and vendor-related liabilities.
    • Levers for driving customers towards more profitable payment types;
    • Payfac vendor negotiation, integration and product partnership, and monitoring of statements and economics.
    • Understanding of processing economics, risk management, and driving usage of more profitable payment types.
    • Skill in payfac vendor negotiations, financial reviews, and monitoring statements.
    • Bonus points for experience working with payment capabilities beyond merchant acceptance, including but not limited to card issuing, disbursements, and other embedded fintech capabilities.

Who You Are

  • Embody our company values of Own, Win, Do Good, and Embrace Curiosity and Candor.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a matrix environment, influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to align stakeholders across Product, Sales, CS, Finance, and Support.
  • Eager to deeply understand our platform and our accounting firm customers' payment needs and behaviors.
  • Reliance on and comfort with metrics to inform decisions and drive performance, with a strong quantitative orientation to build and track success.

Location

While we prefer someone based in—or willing to relocate to—Utah to work closely with our executive team, we will also consider outstanding remote candidates who are able to travel to South Jordan, UT on a regular basis.
