The Opportunity
As our People Ops & Payroll Specialist, you’ll be the go-to person for the day-to-day operations that keep our people supported and our data accurate. You’ll work closely with the Manager of People Operations to ensure payroll, onboarding, and other people processes run smoothly.
This is a hybrid position in South Jordan, Utah (M, W, F in-office).
What You’ll Do
- Payroll & HR Admin
- Process semi-monthly payroll in coordination with payroll approver and accounting.
- Administer off-cycle pay adjustments, bonuses, and payroll compliance tasks.
- Manager state labor accounts.
- Support employment verifications, audits, reporting, and quarterly/year-end processes as needed.
- Unemployment Claims & Leave Management
- Support unemployment claim responses and employment verification requests.
- Maintain employee records with up-to-date and compliant documentation.
- Assist with leave tracking and documentation (FMLA, STD, PTO, etc.).
- New Hire & Offboarding
- Process I-9s & E-Verify for all new Canopians.
Manage offboarding tasks, including final pay, COBRA notices, and terminations in the system.
- Process I-9s & E-Verify for all new Canopians.
- Benefits & Systems
- Serve as a backup to the Manager of People Ops on benefits, systems, and 401(k) administration.
- Support open enrollment and other benefits initiatives.
- Assist with Equity administration.
- Manage new hires and terminations across other People Systems.
What We're Looking For:
- 3–4 years of experience in People Operations or HR support.
- At least 3 years of payroll processing experience.
- Solid understanding of HR practices, employee lifecycle processes, and leave management.
- Strong systems skills (Rippling, Gusto, ADP, etc.) and comfort with HR tech.
Highly organized, reliable, and comfortable handling confidential information. - A customer-first attitude and ability to work independently.

Interviewing @ Canopy:
Application processes can be a little stressful. Here are the stages of a typical interview process at Canopy:
- Once your application is received, we will review it and get back to you if we feel like it’s a mutual fit!
- 20-minute phone call with the People Team
- 45-60-minute video or in-person interview with the Hiring Manager
- 1-3 rounds of interviews, depending on the role
- Final Interview
Interview processes can vary depending on the role. The People Team will give you a role-specific overview of the process during your first phone call.
